Events and Incentives in the Algarve
Finding the right location for your event can be a challenge. To provide you with just the right options, we are always exploring new destinations. Last month we took part in a Fam trip to the beautiful Alrgave, organised by Avenue Sales in collaboration with XPTO Events and Ria Park Hotels. We stayed in the picturesque town of Loulé. From here we explored the region and what is has to offer for corporate events.
Our travel to the Algarve couldn’t have been easier. We flew from Gatwick airport, courtesy of British Airways. The flight to Faro airport, which is the main airport for the region, was just over two hours. After a short 20 min transfer drive, we reached our destination.
Located just over two hour flight away from major European destinations and fast transfers from Faro airport to the Algarve’s major hotels, towns and resort complexes, the region offers great accessibility.
Hotels & Event Facilities
During our visit to the Algarve, we stayed at the 5-star Ria Park Hotel & Spa. Located between Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo resorts, amidst the Ria Formosa Natural Park and close to the sea, the hotel offers a unique location.
We also visited the neighbouring sister hotels, 4-star Ria Park Garden Hotel and Vale do Garrão Villas. With close proximity between the properties, excellent accommodation and a wide variety of meeting facilities across the sites, both indoor and outdoor, there are endless options for events of different types and sizes. The family run resort also offers a 5-star deluxe Hotel Quinta Do Lago, which we had the pleasure of visiting and sampling some of their fine dining. Situated in the Algarve’s most exclusive area, Hotel Quinta Do Lago offers an intimate, elegant and tranquil atmosphere, with excellent service for high-profile events.
The Algarve has a great selection of accommodation on offer. From large five-star luxury hotels, lavish villas and world-renowned golfing resorts, to chic boutique hotels and historic inns (Pousadas), to comfortable mid-range properties, the region can match any event requirement or budget.
In addition to its hotels with excellent meeting facilities, the Algarve also boasts a wide selection of venues for conferences, exhibitions, product launches, awards ceremonies and sporting events.
Food & Drink
From typical pastries to fresh seafood delicacies, the Algarve is a fabulous place to experience the famous Portuguese gastronomy. During our stay we sampled the best the region has to offer. We enjoyed prime beef cooked to perfection at Bovino restaurant, the most exclusive steakhouse experience. We also tried a selection of excellent Portuguese flavours with a modern twist, fresh sushi and devine cocktails at Medusis Club, a glamorous all day pool club, restaurant and nightclub. And we couldn’t get enough of the mouth watering seafood at 2 Passos, a beach restaurant with a simple friendly service and incredible sea view.
In addition to amazing food, we also got to sample the fine Portugeese wines. We particularly enjoyed the wine tasting experience at Dano’s Restaurant, Quinta do Lago’s first sports gastro pub, where we got to explore the best Portuguse wines, perfectly paired with local delicacies, cheeses and cured meats.
Team Building & Activities
The Algarve offers the perfect opportunity to combine business with some downtime in the sun. An amazing coastline and over 5.000 square kilometres of diverse landscape, paired with mild climate year-round allows for a range of exciting outdoor activities. From golf, tennis and a host of water sports to hot air ballooning, vineyard tours and trekking in the mountains, there will always be something to keep you entertained outside of the meeting room.
Besides the outdoor activities, the Algarve has bustling, atmospheric towns and picturesque villages, Moorish castles and Baroque mansions to explore. Not to mention a thriving arts and entertainment scene, from museums and galleries to casinos and a vibrant nightlife.
During our stay we got to sample some of the fine experiences on offer. We enjoyed a boat Trip to Ria Formosa Natural Park, a unique coastal lagoon which is constantly changing due to the continuous movement of winds, currents and tides. We also got to experience the Ria Formosa on bikes, spotting colorful flamingos on their stop-over in the migration route between Europe and Africa.
Another highlight was a tour of the Old Town, a beautiful historic centre of Faro, encircled by ancient city walls and containing a Gothic cathedral, the Bishop’s palace, pretty cobbled streets, orange trees, lovely cafes and restaurants.
We also practiced our golfing skills and enjoyed a round of mini golf at Quinta do Lago, the best golf venue in Europe. Professionals such as Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy frequent this golf course for both training and pleasure.
The Algarve is also well known in the world of sports. During our stay we visited the Campus, a modern multi sports complex with a high performance gym, tennis and paddle courts, swimming pool, cycling, group classes and personal training, recovery suites and sports rehabilitation; perfect for athletes, teams and sports enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.
This short haul destination, with well-known golf courses, beautiful sandy beaches, unspoiled sea coast, cultural attractions, the fabulous gastronomy, fantastic venues and a great year-round climate, lends itself well to any event.
